ITALIAN CHRISTMAS COOKIES MOSTACCIOLI

These Italian Christmas Cookies is oil free, vegan, soft, chewy traditional Neapolitan cookies Mostaccioli. These cookies have been around for centuries and the name come from mosto (must).

MOSTACCIOLI INGREDIENTS:

Flour

Baking powder: store bought or homemade (homemade recipe could be found here)

Cane Sugar

Almond flour: try to use almond flour in these recipe instead of almond mill

Dutch process cacao powder: it will give more intense chocolate color and aroma

Maple Syrup: you can use maple syrup or corn syrup

Apricot Jam: store bought or homemade

Spices: cinnamon, all spice, nutmeg and cloves

Italian Christmas Cookies Mostaccioli

Ingredients

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup cane sugar
  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 1/4 cup cacao powder
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 100 g apricot jam
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 tsp spice mix

Instructions

  • In a large bowl combine all the ingredients together. Form into a ball, leave to chill for 24 hrs (cover with plastic).
  • Preheat the oven 365F.
  • On a lightly floured surface roll out the dough. Cut with a cookie cutter.
  • Place cookies on a tray (lined with a parchment paper).
  • Bake 15-20min.

Notes

Tips: 
  1. You can glaze your cookies with chocolate. For the topping: 200 g chocolate, melt in a bowl over simmering water.
